Digital Photography - Level One

This four-week Digital Photography training transforms the intimidating world of digital photography into a practical, creative adventure, taking students from complete beginners to confident manual-mode shooters.

Spreading the training across one two-hour session each week allows students the time to absorb complex technical skills without feeling overwhelmed.

During the course of this training - We will cover:

1.  Different types of cameras
2.  Camera layout/how to hold it
3.  Menu settings and custom settings
4.  Metering settings
5.  Viewfinder vs. live view/sensor sizes
6.  JPEG or Raw image size
7.  Scene modes
8.  Shooting modes
9.  White balance and lighting
10.  Equipment, lenses, tripods, SD and CF cards
11.  Exposure triangle, ISO, shutter speed, aperture/F-stop
12.  Depth of field/focusing

 The course is for the beginner to intermediate digital camera users.

Digital Photography - Level Two

Ready to step away from "Auto" and truly master your camera? Digital Photography Level 2 is designed for intermediate photographers who want to transition from taking snapshots to creating intentional, powerful photographic art.

In this hands-on course, you will break free from your camera's creative constraints, gain complete control over your technical settings, and learn how to use light and gear to tell compelling visual stories.

What We Will Cover:

  • Mastering the Exposure Triangle: Dive deep into the relationship between Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO to achieve perfect exposure in any environment.

  • The Power of Manual Mode: Learn why you should avoid Program mode and commit to Using Manual Mode Only to take full creative control.

  • Aperture & Shutter Priority: Understand when to use these semi-automatic modes to lock in your creative intent when time is of the essence.

  • The Right Gear for the Job: Discover what lens to use and why, and decode the debate between Auto Focus versus Manual Focus for razor-sharp imagery.

  • Creative Storytelling & Aesthetics: Move beyond basic composition to create Creative Storytelling Images. Explore the emotional impact of Color versus Monochrome (B&W) and learn how to choose the right medium for your subject.

  • Advanced Techniques & Lighting: Master Correct White Balance for flawless color accuracy, and step into the world of artificial light. We will demystify on-camera and off-camera flash, softboxes, and more.

Course Requirements & Hands-On Projects

This is a highly practical, interactive class.

Student Assignment: Throughout the course, students will be asked to take photos applying the techniques learned in class, download them to their computers, and curate them into a final presentation for constructive peer and instructor feedback.

Prerequisites: Digital Photography Level 1 or a basic familiarity with your DSLR/Mirrorless camera buttons and menus. Bring your camera, a laptop/computer for transferring files, and your creative curiosity!
